Acupuncture is a complementary medicine/holistic therapy which helps to generate, circulate, and rebalance energy in the body.
It involves inserting fine, sterile, disposable needles into precise points on the body (called acupoints), which helps stimulate the sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles, activating the body's natural ability to heal.
This results in the body producing natural substances, such as the pain reliever 'endorphins'.
It can help to increase blood flow, flush out any inflammation, relax the muscles, free nerve entrapment, relieve pain, still the mind, increase immunity and overall vigour.
Acupuncture originated in China around 6000 BCE.
The theory is that an energy or "life force" flows within the human body and this energy can be channelled to create balance and health. This energy flow is called Qi.
The theory is that Qi flows through the body along ther 12 main channels called the meridians. These represent the major organs and functions of the body.
When the flow of Qi is blocked, unbalanced, or weakened it can cause illness, pain and/or emotional distress.
In traditional chinese medicine the body follows the YIN and YANG Theory. They are two opposites yet complementary energies. They can no exist without the other. When they are unbalanced, this is when illness occurs. Acupuncture helps to rebalance the two, to create harmony and unblock the channels causing illness.
Acupuncture is considered a safe treatment when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner using sterile needles. It is important to disclose any medical conditions or medications you are taking to your practitioner before beginning treatment.
Some people (but not all) can experience mild, short term side effects such as;
Serious side effects such as a punctured lung or infection are very rare.
Unfortunately, acupuncture isn't for everyone. There are certain health conditions where acupuncture is not recommended. These are;
As a newly passionate acupuncturist, I am dedicated to promoting health, balance, and well-being through the ancient art of acupuncture. Let me share a bit about myself and my journey.
My background and Qualifications
I've been in healthcare since 2005, starting my journey in community pharmacy as a healthcare advisor and moving onto qualify as a dispenser.
I then went on to qualify as a pharmacy technician in 2013 and registered with the GPHC (General Pharmaceutical Council) on the 15/12/2020, which I have been working for the NHS in general practice ever since.
My role is quite limited when it comes to personally helping people, so felt like I wanted/could be doing more to help.
That's when I found acupuncture.
My fascination with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) began when an opportunity came up to do a course in acupuncture, which I enjoyed so much it has made me pursue a career in it.
I am now a qualified registered Acupuncturist and proud member of the CMA (Complementary Medical Association).
I am also fully insured and registered with Redditch Borough Council.
I've newly starting up this business, and I'm 100% dedicated to helping more people to live better lives using an holistic approach.
